One of those wild and crazy things I did when I was in college was join a fraternity.
I made a lot of very good friends that I keep in touch with to this day and my life would definitely be different were it not for the experience of joining the house and all the friendships that came from it.
Well, the house I joined is slowly dying as the number of actives dwindle close to nothing. My friend Matt is what you would call the ideal brother. He is a great friend and leader on top of that. He’s not one to sit by and do nothing as something he loves fades away. So, he sent out an email to all the brothers in his address book with a call to arms. He asked us to cancel plans and make the trek to the house in a couple of week to show some support for the actives and give them some ideas on how to improve things.
There was a lot of banter back and forth and though most didn’t reply and others are opting not to go, there are a few of us heeding the call and making plans to make the trip. I’m one of the few and am looking forward to it next weekend.
Last night Jen and I went to an event that was hosted by our neighbor, Damon, a fine chap and Kelsey Grammer. Yes, that Kelsey Grammer. Damon is the best neighbor ever and we consider him a good friend so we felt honored to be invited.
The event was based around the showing of a new Documentary of war veterans called Warriors - In Their Own Words. A very intimate look into the lives of those that have served. It was interesting to see how similar the stories were and the bonds formed from generations past to current day.
Last night was the Obamawood victory party that we also were invited to but we had already bought tickets and made plans to go to the Warrior event. And boy, what a contrast in crowds I’m sure. Instead of being out with the liberals celebrating their new vitory we found ourselves surroundded by right wing conservatives openly lamenting the “tough week” that it was (if you are a republican) and how God will see them through even “if it feels like 40 years in the desert”.
I’m as liberal as they come but I do have profound respect for those who serve our country in the armed forces. My father went to Vietnam and I grew up with that knowledge and have never forgot it and what it means. It does bother me a bit to hear the way conservatives believe they have a corner on the markets of God and Military.
I love this time of year because change always comes.
This year some serious change happened at the top with Obama’s big win. Couldn’t be happier about that. Time to shake things up a bit.
My annual trip to the Bridge School Benefit was a couple of weeks ago. It serves as a little retreat for myself and has been for the past 15 straight years. It wasn’t an especially great show this year but that’s not what it’s all about. What really matters, is the time spent with loved ones and the exercise of driving up the state and sitting atop the hill in Mountain View that makes it all worth it. It’s Neil Young’s back yard and now better known as Google country which is perfect because to me it’s like a home away from home.
Eons ago, when only a select few new what a blog was, I used to write a lot. I used to write a lot on my blog. Now, everyone blogs and already blogging is being declared dead. I say bullocks to that and have decided to start blogging again. I never really stopped but you know how these things go. Anyhow, here I am starting my 19th nervous blog with a breakdown of the things that have come to past. Which is a lot to say the least.
Spent most of my time working like a good boy should and the down time over weekends had me busy but can’t recall much of them at the present moment.
One thing we did was hang out at Louie’s for Monique’s birthday. That was a fun time with the family. As a side note, Louie sounds determined to go to finally make the trip tp New York to see the Yankees play at old Yankee Stadium. After next season (2008), the Yankees will take up residence at a brand spanking new stadium.
With the new baseball season getting closer a bunch of us got together to buy a ticket package for the Dodgers again. Going to a lot of games. See ya at the Shortstop!
Let’s see, tonight is a bday party for Jon, tomorrow is the Super Bowl, and next week is my bday.
I had my best fantasy football season evar, finishing in fifth place, second place, and two third places in the four leagues, yes four, that I participated in.
The second place finish was in my only for-money league and it landed me a nice little $300 windfall. sweeeeet!
Yahoo has a cool fantasy profile that has all my data going back to 1999. My stats aren’t too impressive since I’ve played in plenty of leagues that I didn’t give a crap about.
now that 2007 is here, I feel ready for it. Bring it on!
I don’t watch much tv. Well, actually, I watch a ton of it but it’s mostly of sporting events or movies. I don’t have a slew of television shows that I watch on a regular basis. I guess that’s what I mean when I proudly state that I don’t watch tv. Whatever. tv is great. I just wish there were more shows of interest to me. I’m gaga over Battlestar Gallactica and that has been my show of the year. I’m a total johnny come lately on this but I don’t care. Better late than never. I love me some Battlestar and highly recommend it to anyone and everyone. But that’s not what this post is about. This post is about the fact that I now have a second show that I like to watch. Two shows! That really makes me a tv show watcher, doesn’t it? The second show is Sleeper Cell on Showtime. I’m a total johnny come lately with this one as well. I haven’t even watched the latest season yet. I just finished the first season which is available for free on On Demand. I don’t even subscribe to Showtime, but the gf does so I can go over there and watch it. Or maybe I’ll just order it. I don’t know.
